Biomedical application of nanotechnology is one of the most promising ways for developing new drug delivery strategies, improvements in diagnosis and overcoming crucial limitations in disease treatment normally faced in clinical trials. Nanotheranostic and combination therapy have been considered as a more efficient therapeutic strategy than common drug treatments. Our current research focuses on the development of new nanocomposites based on noble metals, transition metal chalcogenides, carbon dots and polyphenols toward multifunctional platforms for tumor cells targeting, drug delivery and cancer theranostics. Remote controlled release systems responsive to external stimuli such as light, pH, and ROS were also studied to achieve efficient cargo release.
